When it comes to porcelain tiles for outdoor use, you need to check your tile has the appropriate ‘slip skid rating’. Slip resistance is rated in ‘R’ values and ranges from R9, which has a small degree of slip resistance right up to R13, which is the highest slip resistance, suitable for spaces with high footfall. Rectified tiles are cut to a precise size during production so all tiles are identical, allowing the installer to achieve extremely tight and uniform joints. Unrectified tiles are also available on the market, and will typically come in different sizes which may lead to a less flattering finish with variable joint widths.

If spillages are able to penetrate into the body of a tile, it can cause the product to stain, crack or burst. Marshalls porcelain has an extremely low water absorption rate of 0.01%, which means liquids are unable to penetrate into the body of the tile.

Due to the extremely low water absorption rate of porcelain, tiles are less resistant to staining and to a certain extent will inhibit the growth of algae, making it seriously easy to keep clean.

Extremely low water absorption also guarantees that porcelain tiles are resistant to frost. Their low porosity enables them to withstand freezing temperatures without compromising their strength or durability, perfect for enduring seasons of unfavourable weather.

Colour variation occurs during the manufacturing process of porcelain products. To help minimise colour variation issues in their ranges, Marshalls only source what is known as first choice tiles.
